On 22, 23 and 24 January 2016 the Onassis Cultural Centre redefines the book beyond the book, organizing the first Book Hackathon in Greece, along with artists, designers, editors, authors, poets, developers, entrepreneurs and hackers, in collaboration withEuropeana Space, Goldsmiths – University of London, Coventry University, Cavafy Archive and PostScriptum, with support of GFOSS(Greek Free/Open Source Software Society).
It is a 48-hour marathon of programming, design and entrepreneurial innovation, which will explore the possibilities and the introduction of digital extensions (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, the Internet of Things [IoT]) to a physical object, such as the book, suggesting alternative model in the value chain of the book.
The 48-hour marathon of HackTheBook will challenge participants to use open digital cultural content of Europeana Space, to experiment on it and, finally, to design a hybrid book.
