We are inviting secondary-EDUCATION students from various types of schools from Greece and abroad to come into contact with the historical period of 1821 and the history of their country.
In collaboration with a wide range of experts, they will write new entries or enrich existing ones about the Greek Revolution of 1821 in the Greek-language edition of Wikipedia. Participants can be students of secondary-EDUCATION state schools (from gymnasiums and lyceums including vocational, church, evening, art, ecclesiastical, and special ones) as well as private ones. They will also include students from Greek schools abroad.
The 200-year anniversary of the Greek Revolution of 1821 and Wikipedia’s twentieth birthday are a double inspiration for the Panhellenic School Competition for Encyclopedia Entry Writing. The Competition is organized by ONASSIS FOUNDATION and ONASSIS LIBRARY in collaboration with Open Technologies Alliance (GFOSS), PostScriptum and the General State Archives, under the auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of EDUCATION and Religious Affairs.
Through this process, students and the teachers leading the teams will familiarize themselves with the notion of contemporary encyclopedia as this has developed throughout the centuries. They will also benefit from collaborative writing, development of new digital skills leaving their digital footprint and making use of important artifacts of our cultural heritage.
In this context, we would like to invite you to the online presentation of the Panhellenic Student Competition: “Wikipedia Challenge: Become a Contemporary Encyclopedist”.
